Remembering Her is Remembering Me: Shana Dawn Lewis aka The Sassy Saint

Remembering Her is Remembering Me: Shana Dawn Lewis aka The Sassy Saint

2012

I remember her because she is me and to be honest, I don’t want to forget me from back then.

I welcome the reminder as it reminds me of how far I’ve come. My achievements, even my failures and the goals I still have yet to achieve.

The pain in my head, the pain in my body was unbearable at times and then I had to have all my hair shaved off 😪 then my heart was hurting also as I felt my femininity was robbed of me too.

BUT…

None of that stopped me!

As God still had BIG plans for me.

Tomorrow marks one year since I published my first book and started my own publishing company Yayyyyyy!

More about that in my next post 🙂

Hydrocephalus, the twins and me.

Hydrocephalus, the twins and me.

My family is my biggest support network when it comes to my health conditions. It’s not something we hid, we can’t really as it’s always there, it’s a part of my life and I’m a part of their lives and we’re a close-knit family. I was there when the twins left the hospital for home when they were born.

I’m godmother to their older sister Ashann 15 and my daughter is godmother to their younger brother East 18mths.

The twins Ezell and Asianne-Mae are 8 years old

With Hydrocephalus Awareness Week ending last week for another year I thought I would ask their mum to capture on video, what the twins thought about me and hydrocephalus. Take a look.

New Hair Day – The Reveal

New Hair Day – The Reveal

Welcome if you’re joining me from Instagram good to see you on my blog 😊 as promised you get to see what my hair looks like here first.

Having my hair done has become a “thing”… I get pretty excited in the lead-up to it. From the dying of the weave (extensions), the washing of my own hair, shaving my sides and just the general atmosphere in the hairdressers on the day of my transformation…I find it pretty cathartic really. 😊

Out with the old in with the new!

One side of me
Yet another side of me
And just one more side of me

Just a quick post about my signature pink sassy bob hairstyle.

👀 MY MY EYE EYE 👀

👀 MY MY EYE EYE 👀

Spending just under 4 hours in the A&E department of Moorfields Eye Hospital London was not my plan nor my idea of Friday night fun but it was out of my hands when I was again for the second time in less than a month woke with yet another bloodshot eye only this time it was my left eye 👁😒.

Moorfields Eye Hospital London A&E

Honestly, I wouldn’t bother to go as I don’t like the waiting around nor the anxiety it can cause my family when I have to go to the hospital for anything but with my history, my GP thinks it’s best to have it checked out to be on the safe side.

What in goodness name is going on here though? 🤷🏾‍♀️

Two bloodshot eyes in 3 weeks 😳!!!! Having only ever had a bloodshot eye before was when the glue from my fake lashes got in my eye and I was rubbing it hard. I’ve been pretty cool in that department.

Admittedly it does not look half as bad as the one I got when I woke on February 14th (directly below) however it, definitely feels more painful 😒

Bloodshot eye No.1

It was the only red thing I woke up to on Feb 14th Valentine’s Day, red roses would have been more appreciated but alas that was not meant to be. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Bloodshot eye No.2

Nothing for the second time could be found to be seriously wrong with my eye which of course I’m extremely thankful for but it’s utterly frustrating. That sounds a bit like I wish they had found something wrong, no, it’s just surely the pain and the hospital wait should result in more than being handed a printout of the condition and a smile from the lovely NHS staff that cared for me.

This is why I always say “Trust The Process” because honestly, I have no idea of the real outcome behind these two episodes. I do know by posting the last one on Instagram… prompted someone to have their eyes tested only to find out they had an eye issue that needed addressing. Praise God 🙌🏾 I’ve been told on both occasions it called a subconjunctival hemorrhage which is:

Subconjunctival hemorrhage is when one or more blood spots appear on the white of your eye. The eye’s conjunctiva contains a lot of tiny blood vessels that can break. If they break, blood leaks between the conjunctiva and sclera. This bleeding is the bright red spot that you see on the white of your eye.

I do hope these won’t happen again, they are painful, ugly, and disrupt my day I do however get to wear sunglasses 😎 even if the sun isn’t shining lol

Wearing sunglasses inside 😎

Let me get back to my weekend and see what I can salvage of it 😁 pain or no pain.

World Book Day 2022

World Book Day 2022

World Book Day is a celebration of books for children and it’s such a great way to remind our children how much fun reading can be.

Dressing up in characters from their favourite books is such a fabulous way to engage their young, beautiful and imaginative minds. A wonderful idea 💡 👏🏾 😊.

It’s not very unlikely in the years to come any of the characters in my books will be rolling up in the school playground at world book day but as I’m a big kid at heart ❤️… I didn’t want to miss out on today’s festivities as I don’t get to dress my children up anymore now that they are 25 and 19, lol.

So I thought I would celebrate it differently and just post a stack of my book for all to see 😁😁😁😁 and why not!

As I’m an honest to goodness fully pledge author now…whoopie lol. That feels so good to say even though it’s almost a year on.

I do however have family members with young children that have the joy of dressing their children up and I get to share in that 😊 so happy days.

R.E.S.T.A.R.T in March!

R.E.S.T.A.R.T in March!

I thought I would take this March 2022 to pull my finger out, press on the gas, hit the spot marked x I think you get the gist of what I’m trying to say here, right and what better month to do that in than the month celebrating women Internationally…so I’m doing a R.E.S.T.A.R.T in March!

Watch my short videos to find out what a R.E.S.T.A.R.T is for me.

R.E.S.T.A.R.T Part 2

You may or may have heard the reason for me pausing the video, whilst recording…my son called me asking if I knew where the hairdryer was, as he had just washed his hair and needed it, as he’s off to get it plaited.

A mother’s work is never done even when they’re 19 years old, studying and working and she’s trying to live her own life now they’re all grown up lol.

He went and got his hair plaited once he found the hairdryer looking good 😉🙂

I do hope over this next month of March and beyond you’ll join me for what I hope to be an enjoyable, interesting, adventurous and, at times challenging (more for me possibly than for you 😆) ride. As I R.E.S.T.A.R.T!

The NHS are Lifesavers!

The NHS are Lifesavers!

August 5th 2021 is a day I’ll never forget ever. I got to meet the ICU team at Homerton Hospital Hackney, that saved my Aunty Fern’s life from Covid-19 in 2020.

We spent a few hours speaking to the team hearing about things from there side… It was emotional to say the least.

My Aunt was in hospital for 3 months, 8 weeks of that she was in an induced coma in ICU…truly she is a miracle!

I’ll let the pictures and videos do the rest of the talking.

I’ll definitely be writing about this day in my third book.

What do you think of my Face Mask?

What do you think of my Face Mask?

My son dislikes it, and won’t go anywhere with me, if I wear it. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I think it’s great! I get to wear a full face of make up, without it rubbing off…

And more importantly, I can breathe 😆

I think I need to smile a while 😂
The look my son was happy with…

Conventional sunglasses still look cute but I like my face shield. 😊
